Just one game into Week 2, the fireworks are already flying. Josh Allen has scored 80 points in two games, which is more than Matthew Golden scored during the entirety of last season. The league already has its first member of the 2026 Sub-100 club (sponsored by Jersey Mike’s). Sorry for the stray, Sauce. And just 10 days after opening night, we’ve seen one of the most lopsided trades in league history. I’ll break it all down for you, and more, on this special Saturday edition of MWF. But first, I’d like to introduce a new segment: The Weekly Lock.
As some of you may know, I partake in the occasional sports bet from time to time. Thursday night’s game provided a unique opportunity for bettors, as two of the top offenses (and one of the worst defenses) clashed in primetime. There were a LOT of points scored. This year, I’ll be attempting to identify more of these unique, ultra-high scoring situations, and I’ll be picking one bet from the game as the Weekly Lock. To assist me in this endeavor, MWF has hired a new intern who will be responsible for researching all bets.
Before I introduce him, however, I’d like to address the elephant in the room. Pichael Pinzel is no longer with MWF effective immediately. Our internal investigation confirmed that Pichael embezzled over 30% of MWF’s yearly budget, which he then used to pay off his league mates in a desperate attempt to win his first ever fantasy championship. As one of the ChaMom team owners described him, “Pichael Pinzel is a chomo and can suck me.” I couldn’t agree more.
Now, without further ado, I am proud to introduce MWF’s newest intern and sports betting specialist, Schmichael Schminzel.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- THE WEEKLY LOCK (by Schmichael Schminzel)
This week, I have identified three games with potential to be ultra-high scoring due to high powered offenses, weak defenses, or a combination of both.
NO vs BAL IND vs KC MIN vs CHI
All of these games have the potential to go over 50 total points scored, but for this week’s lock, we’ll be focusing on the game with the top offense in the NFL, Minnesota vs Chicago. The Bears’ 59 points scored last week was the most the Bears have scored in a single game since 1980. Caleb Williams, D’Andre Swift, and Kyle Monangai combined for 100 fantasy points. You’d be hard pressed to see this from a trio of players on the same team that doesn’t include a QB+WR stack, but here we are. The Vikings are an interesting story too. Halfway through the third quarter, the Packers led 22-10 and had a 90% chance of winning. The Vikings then rattled off 29 unanswered points to not only win the game, but straight up embarrass Green Bay.
Even though the Vikings have a conventionally strong defense, they’ve shown they’re still prone to giving up the big play, as evidenced by Christian Watson’s 81-yard touchdown catch and run. On the offensive side of the ball, Vikings backup quarterback Carson Wentz proved to be more than capable, throwing for three touchdowns including two to a resurgent Justin Jefferson. On the other hand, the Bears defense seemed highly exploitable, giving up 37 to the Panthers. Perhaps it’s due to the fact that the Bears scored so fast that their defense didn’t even have time to rest. Regardless, the Bears gave up 361 yards through the air, and this is something I think the Vikings can replicate.
The game situation points towards an early Bear’s lead, meaning Minnesota will have to throw the ball more often. On top of that, the Viking’s RB2, Jordan Mason, is out on IR. Unless they elect to run Old Man Jones into retirement, the Vikings will have to rely more on the passing game than the run game. With that said, I am officially selecting this week’s lock to be Justin Jefferson for 80+ receiving yards (-114).
Disclaimer: I, Schmichael Schminzel, am solely responsible for any incorrect picks. Michael Vintzel and MWF as an organization bear no responsibility for any losses incurred following my advice. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Big thank you to Schmichael for that. He knows that if he misses three locks this season he’s out of a job, which he certainly doesn’t want with so many mouths to feed at home. Best of luck to him! Now let’s get into this week’s happenings.
Josh Allen, a player I had on my roster a few days ago, dropped another 40 bomb. Once a victim of Allen, BiJettas is now his proud owner, ready to terrorize the league. Put simply, Allen is a league winner. He can single handedly put your team on his back and carry you to victory. He also has an incredibly high floor, scoring 20 or more fantasy points in over half his games last season. So why did I trade him? Seeing what he did against my Lions certainly put some doubt in my mind, but ultimately, I would rather have a solid quarterback and serviceable wide-receivers than an elite quarterback and complete duds at WR.
According to advanced stats from duckfucks.com, Allen had a 25% boom rate last year. Meanwhile, Jaylen Waddle, my WR1, busted almost 50% of the time (pause). And my WR2 was Carnell Tate, an unproven rookie with a lot of future upside, but not worthy of a full time starting role. As such, I felt I had no choice but to take more consistent production from both Tee Higgins and Parker Washington in exchange for my elite QB. Furthermore, I think Jaxson Dart is a highly capable fantasy QB, and he displays some similarities to Allen. As long as he can avoid injury, I think he has a chance to be a Top 5 fantasy QB this year. Unfortunately, I fear I’ve created a monster. BiJettas’ roster will strike fear into the heart of any fantasy owner. Apologies to anyone who still has to play him this year (the whole league).
While that trade was pretty reasonable, the Chatham Moms League was rocked on Thursday night by what may be the most lopsided trade in league history: Emeka Egbuka for J.K. Dobbins. I would like to point out that although the trade is lopsided, I do not think it’s league altering in any way. Egbuka is a fringe Top 20 WR right now, and Dobbins is a fringe Top 30 RB. From a value perspective, Chathamite probably could have gotten a much better deal for Egbuka, but this trade does not change his season’s outlook much in my opinion. He still has the best WR group in the league, so much so that he didn’t even have room for Egbuka on his starting roster. Conversely, he was in desperate need of help at running back, and while I don’t think Dobbins will be the answer, anything can happen in fantasy. The Brumderdogs, however, was a clear beneficiary of this trade. Less than 24 hours after picking up Dobbins off the waiver wire, he flipped him into an instant starter in his flex. How did he do it exactly? Here is what we know:
During Thursday Night Football, the Brumderdogs owner, Brum, spoke with Chathamite owner, Jim, on a Discord call. We can’t be certain of what was said, but what we can be certain of is that Brum is a fierce negotiator, capable of trading up from a paperclip to a house. When MWF asked him to comment on the trade, he stated “Jim is a good man with a bad heart.” I haven’t the slightest clue what that means, so I’ll leave it at that.
As a reminder, here are this week’s power rankings (as of Wednesday, 9/17):
1. Threepeat 2. BiJettas 3. They Hit the Second Bower 4. Maltby’s Mans 5. Strib Club 6. Magic in the Hampton 7. The Brumderdogs 8. TiennAmon Square 9. Chathamite 10. Sauce
